People with scars feel embarrassed and uneasy in public gathering, it affects their confidence. Whether you have the scars on the face, or you got them after hair transplant surgery you had years back, they all make you uncomfortable and worried about the way you appear. If you have chosen the scar revision surgery as an option to minimize the appearance of scar or to get rid of them then you need to be prepared to look after the stitches which you will get during scar revision surgery, looking after them will help stitches to heal properly.

Once you have the surgery performed, do not forget to get the care instructions from the plastic surgeon. It is necessary that you fully understand the process, the way you should take care of your stitches and the sensitive area after the scar revision surgery. The clinic nursing staff would look after you in the beginning but later on you would have to do what they do to take care of your stitches.

When you will leave the hospital or clinic after scar revision surgery your wounds or stitches will be covered with bandages to protect them from any bacteria. Your surgeon will inform you about bandage change and you should follow that strictly. You will be advised by your physician when to take off your dressing and if you are not informed by him then generally people remove bandages after these small surgeries in a day or two.

The sutures should be exposed to air because they need to dry to heal properly. Try to remove bandage and expose your stitches to some fresh air as often as you can because it will help your wounds a lot in healing. Once a dressing has been removed you should discard it and never re-use the same dressing.

Simply giving fresh air to stitches is not sufficient you need to clean your stitches to keep them away from getting infected. Clean the stitches at regular interval of time or as per told by the physician, you can utilize a cotton swab for this purpose and dip it in medicated ointment recommended by the surgeon; apply it on the stitches lightly and make sure that no pressure is applied to stitches otherwise there would be chances of developing infection or in worst cases bleeding will start. For every stitch use a separate cotton swab to stop infection from spreading.

Make certain that you do not cover your stitched area with any harsh clothing, head scarf or any harsh material that can damage the sensitive skin. At regular intervals of time apply topical ointment given to you by the surgeon for fast healing of the stitches. Upon feeling any pain, consult your doctor who can recommend you pain killers. Always use a clean cotton swab and apply medication to every single stitch.

You should pay lot of attention to caring for your stitches because it will speed up the process of cells re-growth which will result in fast healing. The surprising results of the scar revision surgery can be seen after 6 months or a year of scar revision surgery.
