Choosing A Method Of Hair Restoration In San Fernando Valley

By Haley Richard

Balding is a problematic issue for many men, bringing with it fears of aging, and lack of self-esteem. There are many choices out there for hair restoration in San Fernando Valley, but not all of these choices are equal. Knowing which ones work and which ones don't can save you a lot of money in the long run.

The vast majority of anti-balding creams are scams. The only ones that are currently approved and proven to work are those containing minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine. This drug helps with regrowth of hairs on the crown, but will not help with receding hairlines. It is much more effective at preventing hair loss than providing regrowth, however, so men who start using it immediately after noticing thinning get the best results.

Because the target population for minoxidil is also the same population most likely to have the conditions it should not be combined with (heart disease and high blood pressure), it is a good idea to talk to your doctor before starting treatment. Unfortunately, this is quite an expensive method of treatment, because it must be used continuously for the results to remain.

A prescription drug that is taken orally, called finasteride, is available in generic and as the brand name drug Propecia. This drug should not be handled by women, because of the risks to any developing fetuses. Only some men respond to this treatment, and just like minoxidil, it must be continued for as long as the results are desired. It is also fairly expensive.

The gold standard for the treatment of male pattern baldness is transplantation. Older methods can sometimes leave a very unnatural appearance, but newer methods are often impossible to detect. However, since these newer methods involve micro-transplantation of a few hairs at a time, they can be time-consuming and expensive.

The major downsides to having a transplant are the expense and the expense. The procedure itself is not cheap, but even after having a transplant, some form of preventative must be used or you can end up with an 'island' of transplanted hair. The combination of a transplant and continuous use of finasteride or minoxidil can be prohibitively expensive for many.

Men must make their own decisions about the highly personal topic of hair restoration in San Fernando Valley. Discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor, for the best results.
