How to do girl's hairstyles: Fun with parting--Stairs part 10-15

So the closer the holidays get, the slower I seem to be moving. Or else everything else is moving faster! I just don't seem to get the chance to sit down at my computer very often, and so I apologize for my few posts as of late. I've made a goal to upload a few today at least to cover me through Thanksgiving! Hairdoing is still going at my house, when I can fit that in, and so there is always material to share!

So for this hairdo, I decided to mix up the parting a bit. Sometimes good old ponytails are in order, and I just felt like doing them--with, of course, something a little bit fun. It took a bit of time to get it straight, but I think it turned out alright.

I started out with very damp hair (this always helps when doing a lot of parting), and I began the part in the front of her head. You can make each vertical line as long as you want, but make the horizontal part about the same in length.

 The back of her head is not as flat and even, since I put in high ponytails. You can adjust the height of the ponytails if you wish.

 I finished her ponytails with good old regular braids--but of course, if you have the time and the creative juices flowing--go with whatever suits you!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - How to do a zig zag puffy braid ponytail 7-10 min

This hairstyle would be cute with pull-thru ponys as well. I tend to stay away from them the thicker my girl's hair gets, or if there's a large amount of hair to be pulled through. It makes for unhappy girls at night.

This hairdo is pretty straightforward, and works great for either long or short hair. I parted off 3 sections in her hair,doing only one at a time. The first section was from ear to ear, and I put in the elastic far to one side. The next section I tried doing across the back center of her head, and positioned the elastic on the opposite side as the first one. For the final section, I included the rest of the hair, and again, put the elastic on the opposite side, or same side as the first. You can do as many sections as necessary. Shorter hair would work better with smaller sections, as the ponytails wouldn't reach as far. You could also split the hair down the middle, and do two puffy braids.

We continued the elastics down her ponytail to keep the look uniform. Wet hair works best for this hairstyle, especially for the ponytail. Working some gel into her hair would also help keep the flyaways to a minimum.

Little Girl's Hairstyles -How to do a 4 Strand Braid "Heidi" UpDo 10-15 min

So, do your girls ever run and hide when you pick up a comb or a brush? That's what's been happening at our house lately. Maybe it's because it's summer and they just want to go outside and run around madly in their swimsuits. Who can blame them? All I know is that my girls BEG for 'just ponytails, k?", or "just a braid, puh-leeze mom?"after I've coerced/bribed/threatened-to-shave-your-head them into the bathroom.

SO, in my undying devotion to you fellow bloggers who take the time to peek at us once in a while, I've posted this little 'just a ponytail/braid' do for you. And of course, we tried to make it a little fun, all the while keeping it out of the face, and allowing them to see clearly while running to and fro on the Slip-n-Slide. Plus I like calling it a "Heidi Hairdo". :)

For this hairstyle, I zig zagged her part from forehead to neck, and put her hair up in two high ponytails.

I then did a 4 strand braid in each ponytail.

Next, and there are a variety of ways you can do this, I just wrapped her ponytail around the other. Now, I get that many of your lovely darlings don't have hair as long as what's pictured here. There are still options! You can place the ponytails closer together, right next to the part. This will have more of a 'bun' effect. You can also just join the braid's ends together in the middle with an elastic. But since my available model has this length of hair, here's what you can do as well.

With the second braid, I tried to layer it as I wrapped it around. Wrap it pretty much however it's going to lay best, and the tightest. I've done it two different ways in my pictures. I did it this way, shown below, and then it's different in the pics shown where she's wearing the flower. I tried to make a figure 8 with the braids.

Bring the ends together underneath and join them.

If you have long ends still at this point, tuck them under the braids, and place them where you'll be able to secure them with a bobby pin.

Secure the braids and ends with a bobby pin, using at least 2 on each side.

If your braid is standing up from the base, like the one on the left in the below picture, push it down so it lays flat, and keep securing the braids wherever necessary.

I stuck in a flower right on top of where the braids joined together underneath (big flowers are super for hiding things). And Voila! She's ready to go! (You may want to remove the flower for slip-n-slide fun though).

Doesn't hurt to be cute while you are having fun, right?

Little Girl's Hairstyles - Ponytails with twist braid 5-7 min

When I ask my little gal here what hairstyle she wants in the morning, she almost always says, "Just a ponytail.......puh-leeze??" And believe it or not......I don't always want to do fancy schmancy hair. SO, here's a little girl's hairstyle that's cute, easy, FAST, and it pleases my little sweetie.

For this one I did an angle part in the front, and then zig zagged it in the back. When I part off for ponytails like this, where all the hair will be involved, I always spray the parts with water, and comb the hair away from the part. This helps me from combing the hair into the wrong side.       

After putting her hair in ponytails, I took about a third of her ponytail, from the front of the pony, and put it in a twist braid. If your daughter's hair isn't naturally straight, you can straighten it or roundbrush it, if you prefer (or just leave it wavy!) The point with this hairstyle is to minimize time! When you are done, send those beauties off with a pat and say "Go forth and play!" :)

Here's my submission to the land of hearts and cupids! Start off with a small zig zag part to the crown, and make two hig ponys.

Put in two twist braids on each side.

Join the two twist braids closest to the center in the middle of her head.

Next, join the two outside twist braids down low on her head, forming your heart. You can do this with regular braids, fish tail braids, whatever you want to do.

I used my wave iron on the rest of her head, and stuck in this gorgeous bow from Flowerz In Her Hair.

Little Girl's Hairstyles -Two top twists with stuffed bun 7-10 min

I had to show off my cute Halloween bow from Madibu Bows again, since it's Halloween week!!

I started with wet hair (and--this one I did before school, so it's a fast one!), and did a little zig zag part to the crown of her head.

I parted off a small section, about an inch deep, and did a twist braid (you can put it in a pony first, which makes this a tad bit easier to keep tight, but I was eliminating a step today).

Clip that one off, or have her hold it for you, and then do another small section with a twist braid below it.

Two finished twist braids on first side (this looks weird because I had to take the picture with my left hand).

Do two twist braids on other side, and comb rest of the hair back away from the part.

Comb hair down to point where you want the bun/pony to be. After getting it smooth, lay your four twist braids evenly on top and secure it all with an elastic.

Here's an important tip when trying to put in a pony anywhere but the very top of her head (if you didn't do this already...), have her tip her head forward ( I say, Chin on the chest please!). This will help keep the pony smooth and tight (and so much easier to put in!).

My stuffed bun. If hair is too short, leave in a cute pony or halfway pulled through.

Little Girl's Hairstyles - zig zag part--7-10 min

Sorry this picture is so dark. If you click on it and make it bigger, you can see the parting much better. This is just a variation of what you can do with a zig zag part. You'll need several elastics for this, and a rat tail comb would be useful.Get hair damp, and part in zig zag, in even sections. The easiest way to do a part like this is to do one splice at a time. Comb the hair away from the part on either side, proceed on. This will help keep the hair in their proper sections, as well as having the hair thoroughly damp.
After it's parted down, I section from each point down, and comb remaining hair away from part.

On this, I alternated each section between a pull through pony and a regular pony. This is a pull through.

To do a pull through, secure a regular ponytail. Take the end of a rat tail comb and divide pony in the middle. Wiggle it to separate hair enough for you to easily pull hair through, and fold pony end over top and pull through.

After hair is pulled through, split pony in two and pull to tighten.

This is what the pattern looks like that I did, keeping the parting going at each point. Do other side the same, and I finished here with simple ponytails. My girl's hair is curly enough that when it's wet, I can curl it around into ringlets and I spray with hairspray. You can curl ponys or braid or twist--whatever you have time for.
